Easter Bunnies and Spring Bonnets

In the public mind when compared to Christmas, Easter is a Cinderella Festival. Yet, without Easter, Christmas would be just another fairy story.

Lenten Thoughts

Lent is a time for us to reflect upon our lives, and particularly our relationship with Jesus who has gone to the cross for all of us - believers and unbelievers alike. This is a four-part course for Lent groups.

Bridges and barriers
Too often we get in the way of the gospel message we want to share. We erect barriers, rather than build bridges. Some of our barriers are unconscious some are deliberate. According to St Francis of Assisi preaching is lifestyle, not just sermons.

Time to begin again
Another New Year and another chance for new resolutions. However, clocks or calendars in themselves do not mark new beginnings, but events may.

Healing the land
History is usually written by the winners, but is remembered most deeply by the losers whose version varies considerably from the official story. Our past memories of hurts exert a powerful influence on the present, especially when they are bound up with our social or tribal identity.

If at first...
How do you respond to failure? Do you give up? Do you see it as a sign that obviously God hadn’t intended you to succeed? Or do you try and discover what went wrong and try again?

The desert - a meditation for Lent

'Come unto me all who labour and are heavy laden': an Easter meditation on the Cross of Christ

Growing in Prayer
The disciples of Jesus grew up in a culture where prayer was the natural concomitant of everyday life. Why?

Praying in the desert
There are periods in many Christians’ lives when they cannot hear God, even when they have encountered him in the past. Have you met this problem, too?

A warm welcome?
Do feel welcome when you visit a strange church?.

Asking Questions
Jesus put his disciples on the spot by asking directly. "But who do you say that I am?" Do you have an answer?

Giving is believing
If the measure of our value, of our worth, is reflected by what we give back to God. If Jesus gave his life for yours, then what you give to Jesus in return is the value that you place on your life. In other words, the more we value our lives and the more we value the lives of those whom we love, the greater the love we show to God for what we have been given.

Speaking personally
Have we become so used to democracy in Britain that we have forgotten what it cost?
