A rap for children Goliath was a huge man With thick hair upon his chest He was his army's champion, He knew he was the best. Every day at breakfast time He'd give a mighty shout: "Wake up, you wimps of Israelites! It's time you were about." Have you had your Weetabix? Have you drunk your tea? Then come on out, you warriors And play at spears with me! But in the camp of Israel They'd cringe and cower in fear When they heard the footsteps Of Goliath tramping near. "He's a giant! He's a monster! We haven't got a chance. No one here can fight him With his huge spear and lance. And so each day every Israelite Would hide within his tent, Hoping Goliath would go away Until some help God sent. Then into camp young David came One morning when the champion shouted. "Why does he carry on so? That bully should be outed." I'll fight that villain, I'll cut him down to size." "If you succeed, our David, Saul will award his prize." His daughter's hand in marriage, And fame and fortune too." "I'll do it", declared David And to the king he flew. "You're so young," said Saul To David, "and Goliath is so big. Try on my armour, son." Said David, I can't wear this rig." He took off the king's armour, And with his staff and sling Trotted down to the stream bed For some stones to sling.
